Brockelsby update

Two days to wait for the first 2yo race of the season
Doncaster 4:10
5f (5f3y) Unibet Brocklesby Conditions Stakes (Plus 10 Race) (Class 4) (2yo)

At time of writing there are now only 14 entrants down from 20

Arthur's Spirit: Brahma Kamal: Broken Spear:Carey Street: Clevedon:
Geography Teacher: Gingersdunthelot: Izzer: Langholm: Lihou:
Tizwotitiz: Wasntexpectingthat: Eviya Rose: Haats Off

Always looking for an edge one way or another:-
  • Broken Spear has been gelded
  • Eviya Rose has had a run over 4.5f at Saint-Cloud finishing 8 of 11; Going Hy
  • Richard Fahey originally had 3 entries now his sole entry Wasntexpectingthat has a good draw most likely to be favourite
  • Mark Johnston has withdrawn I Am a Dreamer
I'm edging towards an e/w bet on Geography Teacher, good trainer/jockey combination, good draw, and unknown sire (FSS) although I may also go e/w Eviya Rose even with a bad draw

Countdown to the Brockelsby

Time of writing, it's four days to the 2yo Brockelsby (20 entered) run at Doncaster

I always look forward to the Brockelsby, the start of the flat season, the race has been a source of future winners each season. Since 1986 when I first started listing and following the 2yo races I have listed the first five home in this race, and originally back in the day, bet on them next time out. I soon realised that to make a profit I needed to be more selective. Some times you have to learn through your pocket. I still list the first five for future wagers, with a more selective approach to when I put my money down.
My approach has also changed in respect of trying to find the winner, and note the runners of trainers of 2yo The top trainers of 2017 with runners
Richard Fahey 3 runners Bengali Spirit, Cadeau D'Amour and Wasntexpectingthat.
Mark Johnston 1 runner I Am A Dreamer.
I note and follow all the New Season Sires, therefore I shall be watching with interest 5 runners
Bengali Spirit (Garswood)
Carey Street (Bungle Inthejungle)
Clevedon (Bungle Inthejungle)
Geography Teacher (Bungle Inthejungle)
Inosanta (Charm Street)

With no form data to go on it's best to just watch, the favourite will more than likely be "I Am A Dreamer" based on the trainers records for early 2yo winners.
Also of interest to me is the 3 Bungle Inthejungle progeny

I go racing as often as I can, you can't beat looking at the horses in the parade ring, evaluate or estimate the nature, ability, or quality of the horses on show first hand.

  • Then if you fancy a bet, (NOTE: You don't have to have a bet) go place the bet
  • Then go to your best looking position, I go to the same spot in the stands
  • Watch your horse win or lose
Win or lose it should be an enjoyable day out , I remember when I first started going racing, my friend and mentor told me a little story.
"How much would you pay for a day out, at the seaside e.g. you can take that same amount of money go racing have one winner and it will cost less, it is also possible to have a great day out and come back in profit."

The most important thing is to enjoy your day out.

Updating my website takes a lot of my time, this blog is an extension of that.

We all want winners, but how likely is it to attain success every time, you would have to say impossible. Then you have to ask yourself what percentage would make you happy. most of the people I've asked say " a small profit would be nice but break even on the day"
For those expecting to get rich from this blog I suggest you pass, however if like me, you enjoy horse-racing and like to the idea of beating the bookie (no guarantees). With your input and comments we can give it our best shot.
